Code and Design Games & Stories
In the first half of the semester, students discover the basics of programing as they create and animate stories, video games, and interactive artwork. Using colorful programming blocks, drag and “snap” together the blocks to make a character (sprite) walk, speak, play music, or interact with other sprites. As they create, they learn to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically. They learn computer science sequences, loops, conditions, variable, and functions. To the Moon and Back
In the second half of the term, we will focus on Aerospace Engineering. Students use the Engineering Design Process to design, create, test, and refine a variety of flying machines. They construct a shock absorbing system designed to protect their marshmallow astronauts in a lunar vehicle, create their own air-powered rockets, and assemble a parachute that actually takes flight! All projects are taken home.
